"Most people overestimate what they can do in a day,
and underestimate what they can do in a year."
(adapted from Bill Gates)
Make time to make a plan, online on Dec 30th, Jan 1st, or Jan 7th
Since 4,000 years ago in the ancient Babylon, people have used the turning of the season to set resolutions for the coming year. Today, some research suggests that while only about 8% of people stick with their resolutions, that's still a tenfold improvement over people who don't explicitly set any sort of resolution at all!
But why stop there?
This New Years' Goal Crafting Intensive is an online workshop that picks up where resolutions fall short. It's designed to provide you with the structure, focus and support you need to develop powerful goals that will help you have the most productive year of your life (so far!)
What you will accomplish:
Mindfulness meditation is the primary practice and framework I've used to inform my personal development over the past 10 years. I work on a few different projects where I have fun wearing a number of hats: coach, facilitator, entrepreneur, manager. I've learned a ton working with the frameworks and practices behind the Goal Crafting Intensive, and can't wait to learn about and explore them with you all!
I've designed many productivity systems, the most well-known of which is of course Complice itself. I've also experimented with dozens of other systems, habits, and techniques for making my life more productive. I used to coach for Beeminder, so I have a pretty good gauge of accountability systems too. I'm particularly keen to talk to anyone who is trying to figure out how to cause their year to make a difference to the future of humanity.
Working at my fourth startup OutboundWorks.com as a Business Systems Analyst.
One of those lazy men that drive progress through building systems.
The end goal of my efforts is to own my own life.
Ask me anything.
As a kid I was very curious, wanting to understand things at their core. I would listen to friends in ways that would allow them to open up their heart and soul. After a few years of lecturing at my university, my call for a deeper understanding to life put me on the road to Asia. There, I received a deep initiation in the arts of meditation and yoga. Now back within a Western lifestyle, I’m deepening my understanding of the human life by coaching people in becoming more fully who they are.
"The 2017 Goal Crafting Intensive gave me more clarity around how to create goals that strike a balance between focus and flexibility."
"The GCI workshop set a great tone for the new year—starting it in a growth-oriented way focused on building systems rather than setting commitments without follow-through."
75% of respondents were significantly more prepared this year than previous years, due to our workshop.
The scientific literature broadly agrees that goals have (at least) four important effects:
Some people (notably Dilbert creator Scott Adams) have claimed that instead of goals, you should have "systems". Nonsense. Have both.
At the 2018 Goal-Crafting Intensive, we'll talk about how to use goals effectively, while not falling into some of the common traps, like lost purposes or a mindset of pre-success failure.
